Horsemanship from the Ground Up
Students learn all aspects of horsemanship including caring for the horse before and after their ride. All beginners start in private lessons until they have acquired the necessary fundamental skills to safely ride in groups and prepare their lesson mount without help from the instructor. Private one hour lessons are most appropriate for ages 5 and up. For ages 3-5 we offer "Lead Line Lessons" which consist of pony grooming, saddling, riding, and feeding treats. While we do enjoy teaching adults, many of our lesson horses are ponies or seniors so we cannot accommodate riders over 170lbs.
All riders are drawn to the barn by a love of horses! Some students chose to ride for personal pleasure/therapeutic reasons while others want to get into competitive riding. We welcome both types of riders! Those on the pleasure track will be committing to one lesson per week in order to reserve a time slot on our schedule. Riders on the competition track ride anywhere from 2-4 days a week depending on the show schedule. For more information on the competition track please see "Show Team" in the menu.
Getting Started
Students are required to purchase an SEI certified riding helmet and must bring it to every lesson.
We highly recommend trying helmets on. Big Horse Feed in Temecula carries a decent selection of children's sizes.
*An ill fitting helmet is a safety concern.
*Bike helmets are not allowed.
Pants and cowboy boots are also required.
Liability Release and Waiver can be found on the main menu.
Cancellation Policy
Lesson times run on a recurring weekly schedule. Lessons cancelled due to weather or unforeseen circumstances by the instructor will not be billed. Unless you have received notice that your lesson has been cancelled, please know that we are expecting you at your regular time. If you miss two or more lessons in a month your lesson slot will be made available to other riders.
24 hours notice of cancellation is required to avoid charges and allow us time to fill your spot. Cancellations with less than 24 hours will be charged half of the lesson rate. No-show or last minute cancellations within two hours of the lesson time will be charged the full amount, due at the next lesson.
Make up lessons may be available to group lesson riders, schedule permitting, within seven days of the missed lesson.
Due to the busy schedule we cannot offer make up dates for private lessons.
Additional Information
Parking is allowed on the street only.
Please refrain from blocking gates and mailboxes.
In the event of an early arrival please wait in your vehicle until your lesson time.
Our barn is small and cannot safely accommodate additional traffic in the aisle way prior to your appointment.
Payment should be made at the time of the lesson or late fees may apply.
We do not have a bathroom for the public, please plan accordingly.
